Why I’m Thinking About Selling My Home – Again

Sigh… here I go again. They have canceled my fire insurance again. After dealing with repeated problems with my homeowner’s insurance, I’m starting to seriously consider whether staying in this house is worth the stress it’s putting on me.

My California FAIR Plan policy has now been canceled twice for “non‑payment,” even though my insurance is supposed to be paid through escrow. I’ve kept everything on my end up to date. I’ve done what I’m supposed to do. But my servicer failed to pay it again. I would imagine it’s not totally on NewRez, because California FAIR has some strange rules of its own. But why NewRez didn’t contact me at all is another story — and that part is on them.

Now NewRez will put me back on their own lender‑placed insurance. It’s not necessarily more expensive than FAIR Plan, but the problem is bigger than cost: their policy only protects the lender — not me.

After dealing with this twice, plus all the other financial pressures and frustrations that come with living here, I’m realizing how much this is affecting my life. Constant stress, constant uncertainty, and constant battles with companies that don’t do their job — it’s draining. And all of this is happening while I’m still coping with the huge effects of grief, which makes everything heavier and harder to manage.

So, I’m honestly thinking it might be time for me to quit stalling and sell my home and move somewhere simpler and less stressful. A place where I’m not fighting insurance cancellations or worrying about what the servicer will do next. A place where I can breathe and focus on my well‑being instead of constant problems.

I’m not making any final decisions yet, but I am acknowledging that something needs to change. And I am praying about it.
