Why I Changed My Blog Title (Again)

If you’ve been following my blog for a while, you’ve probably noticed the title has changed a few times. I’ve been trying to find the right words — something that felt true to my life now, but also true to the life I came from. It took me longer than I expected, but I finally found the name that fits.

I grew up on a homestead in Alaska. We gardened, picked wild berries, raised rabbits and chickens, cut and hauled firewood, and packed water from a spring. Life was simple, hard, and beautiful. That way of living shaped me, and even though I know I won’t return to Alaska’s harshness, I still carry a deep longing for that rhythm — the self‑sufficiency, the closeness to land, the sense of purpose in daily work.

There’s a Welsh word for that kind of longing: Hiraeth. It doesn’t mean missing a place exactly. It means missing a way of life — a life that formed you, stayed with you, and quietly calls you back.

When I first used the word, I wasn’t sure how to build a title around it. I tried a few versions, but none of them felt quite right. Then it finally clicked.

My Hiraeth A Homestead Journey Toward Home

This title feels like me. It honors the life I grew up with, the life I’m slowly rebuilding, and the life I’m moving toward — wherever that ends up being. It’s personal, simple, and honest. And the tagline explains the heart of it: this is my journey back toward a remembered way of living, one step at a time.

So yes, the blog title changed again. But this time, it feels settled. This time, it feels true. This time, it feels like home — and peace.

Welcome to My Hiraeth. I’m glad you’re here.
